Those who remember the guessing game Guess Who? might also remember the controversy it caused. From just 24 characters on the board, only 6 were female and only one was non-caucasian. Today, a Warsaw-based company known as Playeress has created its own version of the vintage game that celebrates strong, inspiring women of all backgrounds. Titled WHO’S SHE?, the two player tabletop game features famous women throughout history, from Frida Kahlo and Amelia Earhart to Serena Williams and Malala Yousafzai.
Made from high-quality Baltic birch wood, each board comes with 28 laser-cut frames featuring hand drawn watercolor portraits by artist Daria Gołąb. Designed to inspire the younger generation, the women featured represent a variety of professions, nationalities, and ages. Instead of asking “Does your person wear a hat?” or “Does your person wear glasses?” the key to winning WHO’S SHE? is to identify each person by asking about her accomplishments, rather than her appearance.
Each character comes with her own biography card, full of fun and interesting anecdotes about her life. “WHO’S SHE? features women who had the courage to be different and take risks. Their triumphs, adventures, discoveries and inventions will inspire you to dream bigger and take risks,” explains Playeress founder Zuzia Kozerska. “In the game we put female profession names wherever possible, to show that girls can do anything. Inventress, discoveress, empress, paintress!”
You can support the WHO’S SHE? project (and get your own copy of the board game) on Kickstarter.
