After seeing these photos, LEGO fans everywhere will be completely inspired to 1) Start playing with LEGOs and 2) Head to the Discovery Times Square New York Museum as soon as possible. Opening tomorrow, Thursday June 13, 2013, The Art of the Brick is an exciting exhibit by New York-based artist Nathan Sawaya. The show will feature brand-new, never-before-seen pieces and it is described as “the world’s biggest and most elaborate display of LEGO art ever.”

Sawaya, who has more than 2.5 million colorful building bricks in his New York and Los Angeles studios, has incredible talents for transforming LEGOs into beautifully crafted and playful works of art. The majority of pieces in this show feature three-dimensional, pixelated human sculptures, with expressive bodies and faces made completely out of the toy blocks.

The artist explains, “These works are very personal to me, since they reflect my growth as an artist as I strove to discover my creative identity… Everyone can relate to the medium since it is a toy that many children have at home. But my goal with this exhibition when it first debuted in 2007 was to elevate this simple plaything to a place it has never been before.” The show is touring North America, Asia, and Australia and there is plenty of time to see the innovative display, which will remain in New York through January 5, 2014.
