Emma Taggart is a Staff Writer and Video Editor at My Modern Met. She earned a BA in Fashion and Textile Design at the University of Ulster in Belfast. Originally from Northern Ireland, she lived in Berlin for many years, where she fostered a career in the arts, dabbling in everything from illustration and animation to music and ceramics. She now calls Edinburgh home, where she continues to work as a writer, illustrator, and ceramicist. Her ceramics, often combined with hand-painted animation frames, capture playful scenes that celebrate freedom and movement, and blend her passion for art with storytelling. Digital Artist Merges Famous Faces to Create Confusing Celebrity Mashups

At first glance, these photos look like standard celebrity portraits, however, they might make you do a double-take. French digital artist Benji (aka @morphy_me) takes two famous faces and blends them together to create a brand new, totally made-up face. That’s right—none of these people actually exist! Benji doesn’t use the popular editing apps like FaceApp. Instead, he uses Photoshop to masterfully create his face fusions.

German City Installs Sleep Pods for People Experiencing Homelessness

People who are experiencing homelessness are particularly vulnerable right now. Sleeping outside during winter is unthinkable for many, never mind during a pandemic. In Germany, there are around 860,000 people living on the streets. That’s why a company called Ulmer Nest in the city of Ulm (75 miles (120 km) west of Munich) is doing what it can to help.

Pulsating 60-Panel Light Installation Celebrates the Micro Beauty of Yellowstone National Park

Inspired by the intricate patterns found in nature, Venezuelan artist Claudia Bueno created Pulse, a stunning light installation at Meow Wolf’s new exhibition space in Las Vegas. It comprises layers of white line drawings on 60 glass panels that, when illuminated, appear to move and throb like living organisms. The inspiration for Pulse came when Bueno visited Yellowstone National Park and was fascinated by the natural landscape.

Artist Handcrafts Tiny Floating Islands With Enchanting Little Houses Embedded in Them

Amsterdam-based artist Rosa de Jong creates fantastical miniature landscapes that appear to float in mid-air. Her series, titled Micro Matter, sees found wood repurposed as rugged terrain, where trees and moss grow around jumbles of houses that are precariously placed on steep hillsides. Although de Jong’s sculptures look otherworldly, they still hold a certain earthly familiarity. She finds her natural materials all over the world.
