Artist Reimagines Cats as Royalty in Traditional Portraits of People

When looking at old works of art, it's not uncommon to find a feline companion somewhere in the composition. Artist Galina Bugaevskaya (aka Cat Universe on Instagram), however, reimagines traditional portraits where cats are the stars. Her ongoing series features kitties donned in historical costumes and jewelry, posing as noblity. Bugaevskaya has been creating her Cat Universe for over three years. The premise of the project is to place images of cats—usually via Photoshop—in unexpected situations.

You Can Lie Back and Enjoy Life in This Smiley Face Hammock

When we think of hammocks, we usually imagine relaxation and lazy, summer days. For Italian architect and designer Federica Sala, hammocks represent cherished memories of her childhood spent at the beach. Tapping into these nostalgic feelings, she created a sculptural hammock setup that will bring a smile to anyone's face. The Happy Hammock features a black metal frame that is intended to resemble a simplified face with two closed eyes and a pointy nose.

Hypnotic Ceramic Sculptures Juggle Soothing Circles in Nested Shells

When looking at the sculptural ceramic art of Matthew Chambers, there is a lot to unpack. Using a potter's wheel and clay he produces mesmerizing tactile vessels that are actually multiple pieces merged into one round form. Underneath the external “shell” is several smaller bowls that are arranged like concentric circles. Based on the Isle of Wight in the UK, Chambers is inspired by the purity of circles as a shape.

Hyperrealistic Artworks Are an Intriguing Portal to Their Subjects Inner Worlds

At first glance, it's hard to distinguish Mustafa Yüce‘s art from reality. The Turkish artist creates hyperrealistic paintings and pastel drawings of enigmatic figures in carefully crafted environments.  Seemingly lost in their own thoughts, they are intended to reflect people's inner worlds. “What I really want to emphasize is the narrative in my compositions,” Yüce explains to My Modern Met.
