Renowned for its contemporary and innovative sauna designs, Italian brand Effe has long set the standard for wellness experiences that seamlessly unite design, technology, and sustainability. At Milan Design Week, the brand recently introduced Petra SH, a modular wellness system that combines a home sauna, hammam, and plunge bath, all in one customizable structure.
Designed to fit in public or private spaces, the Petra SH makes the centuries-old sauna and Turkish bath traditions accessible to wellness lovers everywhere. Made with eco-friendly, recyclable materials, the modular system includes a sauna lined with Swiss pine, a resilient Alpine wood known for its calming scent and antibacterial benefits. Meanwhile, the hammam invites visitors to enjoy a relaxing steambath in a space made from innovative recyclable mineral material that naturally resists moisture and bacteria.
The hammam is powered by Effe’s Nuvola Smart steam generator, discreetly tucked beneath the bench, with automated steam and temperature control, an open-door sensor, and a touch-screen panel. It can also be paired with a sensory shower offering chromotherapy (color therapy) and fragrance diffusion. After warming up, you can cool off in the cold-water plunge bath. The steel tub is framed in custom Aspen, offering a simple ritual that boosts circulation and leaves you feeling refreshed.
Designed by Marco Williams Fagioli, Petra SH is the result of a thoughtful process that honors and reinterprets the traditional cultures it's inspired by. “Before starting on the design of Petra, I spent a lot of time looking into the history of saunas and hammams, two age-old traditions that are deeply embedded in different, distant cultures,” he explains. “I found the symbols associated with these ancient wellbeing practices absolutely fascinating; for instance, the tradition of lowering the height of the door, so bathers had to bow as a sign of respect when they entered. I wanted to incorporate all these aspects into my project, so the experience would be even more stimulating and authentic.”
