Fans of both the television show Mad Men and tiny homes have found an unlikely pairing thanks to Land Ark RV. The company has created a mid-century modern RV called “Draper,” named after the iconic character Don Draper who made the television drama famous. “Make it simple, but significant,” he stated in the show. The attitude and style of Mad Men’s Draper certainly fits the aesthetic of Land Ark’s trailer, which boasts clean lines and the gorgeous simplicity for which the mid-century design movement is known.
Draper is stunning as soon as you lay eyes on the exterior. Featuring an angled roof and large windows, it is clad in nearly all black. The exception is a brown panel that can be folded away from the facade to create an elevated outdoor patio—perfect for enjoying the outdoors once you’ve settled on your latest locale.
The interior is an inverse color scheme to the exterior. The walls, floor, and ceiling are white-wash pine with many light-hued accents to match—making the entire space feel airy and open. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a mudroom that includes a utility closet, bench, and cubbies for your shoes and outerwear. Through the mudroom is a gallery that connects to the rest of the space. A custom designed oak ladder leads to the sleeping loft, while below is the main living area with a galley kitchen and a convertible sofa. Coupled with a bathroom that has a wall-hung toilet and a full-size shower, the modern RV feels like a conventional home that just happens to be on wheels.
Draper is now on sale through Land Ark for $144,900 and takes between three and four months to build.
