Artist Jackie Taylor (of MoonStarsJewelry) aims to infuse the beauty of the universe in her pieces of jewelry. For over 20 years, Taylor has refined her design process, which always begins with a detailed drawing. Her multifaceted technique includes wire construction, metal forming, soldering, firing glass in a kiln, casting, and even wax carving. What's perhaps most interesting is that Taylor pays homage to the Tibetan Buddhist monks who would throw prayers of intention into molten metal as they casted their sacred bells. The jewelry designer also takes part in this honorable practice by “realizing the importance of intention, and elements that go beyond the decorative aspect of jewelry.”
As Taylor works to visually recreate the nighttime sky, complete with shining stars, the designer is essentially aiming to capture the magnificence that surrounds us. Taylor explains: “Ideally my creative process can be both seen and felt in the work as it bridges the connection between our eternal quest for meaning and a continuing celebration of the beauty of the universe we inhabit.”
