Astrophotographer Travels to Alaska for Epic Photo of Lunar Eclipse and the Northern Lights

Astrophotographers are often willing to go to great lengths to get a memorable photo. For Dan Zafra of Capture the Atlas, this meant traveling to the wilds of Alaska to capture a recent total lunar eclipse. His gamble paid off, as he was rewarded with an exceptional photo of the eclipse surrounded by the glow of the Northern Lights.

Long-Lost Renaissance Masterpiece by Famous Artist Andrea Mantegna Has Resurfaced in Pompeii

A long-lost painting from the mid-16th century that has been attributed to famed Renaissance painter Andrea Mantegna is now temporarily on view at the Vatican Museums. After three months, the freshly restored painting will go back to the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary in Pompeii, where it was originally discovered and has hung for centuries. The scene, titled Deposition of Christ, depicts Jesus’ descent from the cross after his crucifixion.

Evocative Photography Book Explores the Parallels Between War and Peace

According to the Geneva Academy, there are over 110 ongoing armed conflicts across the world. It’s a stark reality, and one that Istanbul-based artist Uğur Gallenkuş attempts to confront throughout his most recent book Parallel Universes of War & Peace. Published on September 21, 2024, in honor of World Peace Day, the book visualizes the disparities between war-torn countries and those at peace, expressed through evocative digital collages.
