Friend: The AI Necklace That Could Redefine Friendship

A new AI wearable is set to hit the market soon: Friend. Designed by Avi Schiffmann, a Harvard dropout, Friend is a necklace pendant that acts like its name suggests: a friend. The user simply has to touch a button, and a Friend will listen in via Bluetooth, evaluate, and then send a text to their phone. However, Friend also listens in all the time.

Giant Permafrost Crater “Gateway to Hell” Is Rapidly Expanding in Siberia

Deep in Siberia, an enormous depression in the Earth, often called the Gateway to Hell, is rapidly expanding, taking large chunks of Earth with it.  The Batagaika crater is the world's largest permafrost crater and emits a startling quantity of greenhouse gases. The tadpole-shaped hole measures a kilometer long (almost a mile) and reaches depths of up to 100 meters (328 feet). Though it's called a crater, that's actually a misnomer.

Monumental Portraits of Tiny Peacock Spiders Flaunting Their Colorful Bodies

Australia's peacock spiders are known for the remarkable, colorful, iridescent patterns that the males exhibit on their abdomens. There are a little over 100 species in the genus Maratus, with the tiny spiders measuring between just 3 and 5 millimeters in length. A new exhibition by Australia-based Colombian artist Maria Fernanda Cardoso celebrates their beauty through exceptional macro photography. Spiders of Paradise centers on about 17 monumental portraits from Cardoso's ongoing peacock spider photographic series.
