Spectacular Summer Fireworks Festival Cloaks the Sky and Earth In Colorful Lights

For the first time in three years, a spectacular fireworks show took place in Japan—and it didn't disappoint. Due to the pandemic, the Kihoku Lantern Festival hadn't taken place since 2019. It returned in 2022, and photographer Luu Hasegawa was on hand to document this enchating festival. Taking place in the port town of Nagashima in Kihoku, Mie Prefecture, the festival is a summer event that typically draws large crowds.

Parts of the Great Barrier Reef Show the Highest Coral Cover in 36 Years

The Great Barrier Reef is a global treasure. Visible from space, the marine park stretches over 1,800 miles along Australia's Queensland coast. The bright coral is a phenomenal living being visible under crystal-clear waters. A favorite of divers, it is home to 400 different kinds of coral, rays, dolphins, 1,500 species of fish, 200 types of birds, sea turtles, mating humpback whales, and even giant clams.

YouTuber Scours Unclaimed Baggage Store To Reunite Travelers With Their Lost Luggage

Losing luggage is, at best, annoying; and at worst, tragic. Having anything disappear is a crummy feeling, and one YouTuber has tried to lessen the blow by reuniting owners with their lost items. In a video titled I Bought LOST LUGGAGE and RETURNED IT to the Owner, Hope Allen, aka HopeScope, searches through a trove of abandoned objects to try and find beloved lost things.

Red Statues of Putin Riding a Tank Pop Up in Parks Around the World

In Paris, Barcelona, and New York City, a red statue of Vladimir Putin has quietly made an appearance. The brainchild of French artist James Colomina, the statue shows the Russian leader riding a small tank like a child would ride a toy car. Colomina is known for his red sculptures that often comment on social issues, and after five months at war with Ukraine, Putin could not escape the artist's commentary.
