Viewing the world through the eyes of Lisbon-based photographer Teresa Freitas is like stepping into a candy-colored wonderland. With soft pastel hues and imaginative compositions, her ever-growing portfolio of travel photography captures the magic of each location she visits.
Freitas’ interest in photography and creative editing began when she was a sophomore student. During this time, she shot portraiture using black and white film, but her style soon evolved into the colorful, digital photos she creates today. From military parades in Saint Petersburg to the beautiful thermal baths in Budapest, Freitas’ whimsical images look like scenes from a Wes Anderson film.
Freitas digitally edits her raw photographs to achieve her distinct, pastel-tinted aesthetic. “When I started traveling more, I started to realize just how much you could work with color to shape an image and give a subtle strangeness to a place, as something that exists at the same time that it doesn't,” Freitas tells My Modern Met. “I've always been attracted to tinted colors, so that wasn't really a decision but a natural outcome. More and more, I want to give a cinematic look to the photos I take, so that's what I'm always trying to reach when choosing what to photograph and how to edit it.”
