It’s been 50 years since man landed on the moon, and LEGO is celebrating the incredible 1969 mission with a brand new model. The toy brand has collaborated with NASA to launch a LEGO replica of Apollo 11’s Eagle lunar module. The collectible, 1,087-piece set was created by LEGO designer Lars Joe and features an incredible amount of true-to-life detail.
During the development of the kit, Joe and his team visited NASA space centers in order to create a design that is as accurate as possible to the original lunar module. The descent stage features metallic gold landing pads, a brick-built video camera and laser reflector, and a ladder. The ascent stage has a detailed interior, complete with tiny control panels and storage spaces. The kit also comes with two astronauts figurines with golden helmets, and there’s even a LEGO platform that depicts the lunar surface, featuring craters, astronaut footprints, and a U.S. flag.
