Couple Renovating Their Bathroom Finds a Hidden Note From Its Former Owners

Like many homeowners, Jess and Alex Monney decided to renovate their bathroom. During home improvements, you never know what you’ll find once you start to scrape wallpaper, remove flooring, or even tear down walls, but the Monneys came across a truly surprising discovery from the home’s former owners.

As their contractor was gutting the bathroom, he found a note scrawled onto the walls. “Hi! We’re the Shinsekis!” It began. “We remodeled this bathroom summer 1995.” Then comes the unexpected part: “If you’re reading this, that means you’re remodeling the bathroom again. What’s wrong with the way we did it?!?!?” The Shinsekis also included a studio portrait of themselves as well as a note from their pet rabbit, Cassie—who, apparently, had ambitions of being the next Cadbury bunny.

The hilarious, if not slightly awkward, message amused not only Jess and Alex but the internet at large. Alex uploaded the pictures to Twitter where it quickly went viral. And of course, internet detectives tried to find the Shinsekis to tell them that their correspondence had been received loud and clear.

The Monneys never met the family, but Alex had this kind message to give them. “Your bathroom, and home, is lovely,” he relayed online. “It has given us a lot of beautiful memories and we can't wait to raise our little baby girl here. Sorry we're changing the bathroom, but the shower is too small for me to fit in (I'm 6′ and my wife is 5′). Thank you for the amazing surprise!”

Alex and Jess are planning on keeping the now-tradition of note writing alive by leaving their own message inside of the wall.

This is Alex and Jess Monney, a couple living in the Bay area who decided to remodel their bathroom.

But as their contractor was gutting the room, he found a hilarious hidden note written inside of the walls.

It even included a little note from their pet bunny, Cassie.

To continue the tradition, the Monneys will leave their own note. We wonder how long until it's discovered!
