If you’ve ever tried doodling without lifting your pen from the paper, you know how fun it can be to create abstract illustrations made up of lines and squiggles. Specializing in exactly that, American artist Tyler Foust creates abstract, continuous line drawings full of mesmerizing patterns.
From wavy lines that seem to vibrate on the page to abstract animal illustrations, Foust renders a whole range of motifs in a single stroke. Perhaps his most interesting works are those drawn on dark paper with white ink. Foust cleverly plays with negative space to create complex line drawings of silhouetted subjects such as birds, bears, and more.
No matter what he chooses to draw, it's the process that the talented artist loves the most. “I enjoy the stress of having to make sure every turn is intentional,” Foust tells My Modern Met. “The challenge of keeping the line as compact as possible without ever letting it touch. Keeping the gaps as consistent as possible. All of this while creating an image with hidden images inside.”
