The Hybrid collection from the Italian company Seletti features strikingly exquisite plates, bowls, teacups and saucers that juxtapose traditional Eastern and Western aesthetics. They're quirky and colorful, and each of the modern ceramics is an amalgamation of two contrasting styles melded at the center. The unexpected pairings are certain to start conversations at any dinner party.
Hybrid was designed by CTRLZAK, a studio founded by artists and designers Katia Meneghini and Thanos Zakopoulos. Each creation is inspired by the duo’s diverse experiences around the world and their rich cultural backgrounds. As shared on their website, “The collection looks at the present while reflecting on the irony of history.” They continue, “The pieces in the collection are graphically divided between east and west with a colored line marking the boundary between the two styles and, paradoxically, strengthening at the same time the union.”
The designs originated back in 2011, when Seletti and CTRLZAK presented the first pieces of the collection. Over the past 6 years, Hybrid has been met with a lot of success and high demand, and the designs have continued to grow. In fact, CTRLZAK is introducing a series of rugs into the collection that follow the same concept and aesthetics. The rugs debuted in this year’s maison et objet in Paris, an international trade fair dedicated to lifestyle fashions and trends.
