Showtime Reveals How They Filmed This Incredible One-Shot Take

One-Shot Take Behind the Scenes by Kidding

It’s not often you get a peek behind the scenes of the world of show business, but when you do, it’s truly fascinating to see how the magic of cinema and television is produced. The creators of the new Showtime series, Kidding, recently shared a split-screen video showing their impressive one-shot process of introducing their new character, Shaina (Riki Lindhome). In under just 2 minutes, the audience can watch her transformation, after being inspired by watching “Mr. Pickles’ Puppet Time.”

The mesmerizing footage shows the final clip next to an overhead view of the set. Viewers can watch the seamless single-shot technique unfold through quick, highly efficient team choreography. Just like a dance, it’s clear to see how much planning and coordination the scene must have taken. Although there are only a few characters seen in the final cut, behind the scenes shows a whole flurry of crew, working quickly to swap out set pieces while the studio floor manager calls out cues.

The entire set changes multiple times, and the main character is seen hurriedly changing costumes every few seconds. At one point, she even carries a puppy on set, who is later seen as an adult dog, cleverly visualizing the passage of time. One lone cameraman glides around with a Steadicam, capturing the entire scene in one continuous, smooth shot.
