Pastry Chef Creates Incredible Geometric Cakes Inspired by Origami

Pastry chef extraordinaire Dinara Kasko is known for her incredible math-inspired cakes that look like contemporary sculptures. It’s no surprise that Kasko has a background in architecture—each edible, cake art masterpiece is created using 3D-printed molds that Kasko engineers using algorithmic tools and complex diagramming techniques.

For two of Kasko’s latest creations, the baker found inspiration in the ancient art of origami. “I spent a great amount of time folding sheets of paper and learning methods and principles of origami,” she reveals on Instagram. “[I’m] inspired by the beauty of lines and patterns of folds.” Kasko developed the spherical, concertina-style forms by first creating various different models out of paper before digitally rendering the final mold designs. And the cakes are just as impressive on the inside. When cutting into her red Origami Cake, we’re delighted to be met with deliciously uniform layers of soft chocolate sponge, nuts, caramel cheese mousse, and apple compote.

Kasko recently began selling her mold designs and recipes on her website, providing home pastry chefs the chance to create their own geometric delights. Check out more from her cake collection on Instagram.
