Bus Stops Across Europe Are Getting “Living Roofs” To Help Bees Thrive

Helping the threatened population of bees (and other pollinators) plays a big role in preserving our fragile environment. Back in 2019, Utrecht, Holland, transformed hundreds of bus stops into plant-filled havens for the insects. Leicester, England, quickly followed suit and implemented the pollination pit stops into their city-wide climate initiative in 2021. Thanks to the huge success of these renovated bus stops, the UK is planning on creating at least 1,000 more.

Artist Spends Two Years Doodling Every Surface of His 12-Room Home [Video]

British artist Sam Cox (aka Mr. Doodle) is known for his bold black-and-white drawings. And while he's been known to doodle everyday items like cars and has even doodled an entire room, he really outdid himself with his latest project. After two years, 900 liters of white paint, 401 cans of black spray paint, 286 bottles of black drawing paint, and 2,296 pen nibs, he covered the interior and exterior of his house in doodles.

Hefty Tree Trunks Are Twisted and Knotted Into Surreal Sculptures

French artist Christophe Guinet, aka Monsieur Plant, creates fantastical sculptures that will make you do a double take. Inspired by nature, particularly trees, his latest series, Twist, features hefty pieces of wood contorted into five striking forms. Each one was installed in a natural setting, instilling a sense of wonder in the environment. Though they appear to be made of real wood, Guinet actually creates these pieces from plaster.

Before Her Death, Queen Elizabeth II Sat for an Oil Painting Portrait With an Award-Winning Artist

Even though Queen Elizabeth II has passed, her legacy as a dutiful and graceful monarch lives on. Prior to her death, one painter was tasked with capturing the Queen's likeness in an exquisite portrait. Award-winning artist Miriam Escofet, who was granted the prestigious BP Portrait Award in 2018 for her depiction of her mother, created a hyperrealistic portrait of the Queen over the span of seven months and two in-person sittings.
