Purchasing a bar of soap at the store isn't quite the same as making your own. In fact, very few people understand the work that goes into making it. For luxury soaps, this process is even more entailed, meaning that even fewer people grasp the full amount of time and effort involved in soap-making. Thankfully, an eye-opening video by @ugyarneo762kgebr on TikTok recently posted online illustrates this soap-making process using unique ingredients, including silk and coconut.

The soap in the video is coconut-based, and much of the first part of the video shows a man cutting up the fruit and crushing the coconut flesh so that it becomes milk. After sitting for two days, the milk turns into a thick coconut cream, which the soap maker (or soaper) leaves to solidify. While this process is underway, the video shows him harvesting pear blossom flowers for their pleasant aroma and leaving them to dry. The soaper is also seen cutting apart silkworm cocoons and boiling them in hot water to break down the fibers and make it easy to pull the silk apart.

In the final steps of the soap-making process, the man in the video pours a mixture of edible alkali and the liquidy silk substance into a bowl with the solidified coconut cream, blending it together before adding his final two ingredients—crushed pearls and olive oil. After mixing these in, he carefully pours the creamy, off-white soap mixture into a beautiful wooden mold, where it hardens and is later cut into familiar, thick, rectangular blocks.

Even more impressive, the man uses traditional soap-making techniques, relying on a mixture of wooden and stone implements to form the soap. While the video does not show someone trying out the final product for themselves, one can only imagine what a luxurious feeling it must provide.
