Textile artist Fenny Suter of Suter Design & Co. creates 3D paintings you can touch. Her extraordinary embroidery art evokes the different tactile sensations of a day at the beach, from the cool splash of the tide to the softness of sand to the smoothness of leaves.
Suter, who learned how to sew at the age of nine, says, “I love the process of embroidery. It's slightly obsessive and repetitive, but also meditative.” Her passion for sewing led her to start her own creative company, where she is the artist and pattern designer for all of the pieces. “Suter Design & Co. is founded as a way to capture and share my love of life's simple and nuanced moments through embroidery,” Suter explains on her website.
Many of her luxuriant designs feature dazzling cerulean seascapes with tiny human figures basking in the water. They appear to capture a fleeting moment in time, where everything is imbued with a sense of serenity. What makes Suter's compositions so arresting, however, is how she merges a variety of textures into each piece. The Lagoon series, for instance, includes voluminous looping foliage, a cloudy pool of water, and vibrant stitched leaves. As a result, these lavish illustrations are a delight for the eyes and fingertips.
