When you’re feeling low, sometimes all you need is a friend to tell you that everything will be okay. Mental health issues are more common than you might think, so it’s important to surround yourself with the people and things that make you happy. In a bid to inspire kindness and self-love, illustrator Jang (of Jangandfox Studio) creates heartwarming animal comics that are sure to make you smile.

Jang started creating comics just 10 months ago, but she’s already gained more than 150,000 Instagram followers. And it’s clear to see why—each adorable, two panel scene is both relatable and uplifting. Although she’s chosen animals as the subjects of her comics, viewers are able to see themselves in them. “I always loved my bedtime stories as a kid and animals were a big part of it,” Jang tells My Modern Met. “Think along the lines of Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and The Little Prince. Somehow, animals are a common language for connection.”

The artist’s main animal character is inspired by a hand-stitched toy fox that was given to her by a toymaker from Tbilisi. “I created the little fox with what I wished I had – a knack for saying the right words,” Jang says. “Together with the blue elephant trying to fit in, the pig that has the magic of turning everything to food and the other animals with their own furry tales (and tails), they try to make meaning of the perplexing world, just like we do.”

From building confidence to letting go of the past, Jang’s comics visualize positive messages that we should be reminded of every day. “I hope that these little comics which capture my thoughts and pieces of my life can uplift and connect people with a little warmth, friendship, and love. Regardless of culture or language, anyone can relate and make meaning of these animal comics.”
