Vancouver-based artist Bobbie Burgers paints beautiful blooms that appear to animatedly burst with each brushstroke. Rendered in an abstract style, her floral compositions capture the unique beauty and diverse color palettes exhibited by bouquets and other bunches of flowers.
Like many tried-and-true still lifes, Burgers’ creations are composed of acrylic paint and painted on large-scale canvases. While these mediums are nothing new in the wonderful world of art, Burgers manages to transform traditional flower depictions into contemporary and creative works of art with her delightfully distinctive style. Almost entirely abstracted, her floral paintings suggest the contours and colors of bouquets without resorting to straightforward realism. The result? Colossal flowers that overflow with energy.
Though she is renowned for her large-scale depictions (who can say no to 7-foot flowers?), Burgers has also started to dabble in smaller creations. In addition to “teeny tiny prints,” she also produces scaled-down oil paintings, little collages, and miniature mixed-media drawings. You can see these small-scale pieces alongside her well-known floral paintings on her garden-themed Instagram.
