If you're a photography aficionado, you may be quite familiar with the Contax G2 camera. Produced between 1996 and 2005, this innovative piece of technology was considered to be the most advanced rangefinder of its time. Though there's no news of a newer model being made, it is still possible to find vintage cameras online. Luxury brands Casablanca and MAD Paris purchased some of the rare stock for a unique collaboration.
A limited number of Contax G2 cameras were reimagined in vibrant colorful form. Original models were transformed by adding hand-applied ceramic multi-colored coatings to the surface of the devices. Green, blue, yellow, and red hues adorn the front, top, back, and bottom of the beloved camera. Not only that, but Casablanca also incorporated its signature diamond logo branding to the front of the camera.
“It was a true accessory to the traveling man,” says Casablanca. “Crafted by artisans in Japan, it raised the bar as a masterpiece in electronic photography.” Some of its impressive features include a 35mm autofocus, a four-frame-per-second integrated motor drive, shutter speeds of up to 1/6000 per second, X-sync at 1/200 per second, and an extended baseline-autofocus system with the Carl Zeiss Planar 45mm f2 lens.
These beautifully redecorated pieces were sold through Casablanca for $8,500. Due to the camera's abilities and scarcity—not to mention the eye-catching, new appearance given by the collaboration—the models sold out in no time.
