Sentimental Photos Shine a Light on the Undying Love of Elderly Couples

For several years, But Natural Photography founder Sujata Setia has primarily dedicated her practice to newborn and family photography. After recently realizing that these shoots seldom featured grandparents, however, the London-based photographer decided to shift her focus, adding sentimental portraits of elderly couples to her beautiful body of work.

In her series, titled Elderlies, Setia captures the “pure and honest” love shared by pairs of aging partners. In order to offer an authentic glimpse of these relationships, Setia only opts to photograph real-life couples. Whether they're scouted through modeling calls or scoped out in public places, the “elderlies” featured in these photos have been carefully selected by Setia, who “loves to listen to the stories of [their] lives and then translate them into the images she clicks.”

Though this newfound photographic interest diverges from her past work, Elderlies retains Setia's signature style, which is characterized by candid, natural poses and everyday backdrops. After all, though her subjects may differ, Setia still retains the single belief that sparked her passion: that “love is hidden in the moments that we sometimes forget to relive!”

In addition to exploring elderly couple's romantic relationships, Elderlies also showcases the bonds between grandparents and their young grandchildren. Together, these collections help illustrate the importance that intimate connections—both romantic and familial—hold at all stages of life.

In her series, Elderlies, Sujata Setia of But Natural Photography captures the love shared by aging couples.
