If you keep up with recent fashion trends, then you may have come across a quirky pair of footwear called the Big Red Boots. With a distinctly stylized appearance and playful proportions (the kind that Astro Boy would wear), this pair of shoes quickly became a viral sensation. The Brooklyn-based brand behind the design, MSCHF, even stated that part of its mission is to “subvert mass/popular culture.” Now, the cartoonish legacy of these boots continues in a new edition, which was made in collaboration with Crocs.
Like the original, this spin-off features the same cartoon-like silhouette with an exaggerated roundness in the shoe and a tall, thinner shaft. Crocs adds its own touch by incorporating its signature yellow color, hole cut-outs, and a strap wrapping around the back. The rapper Tommy Cash debuted MSCHF x Croc's exciting collaboration at Rick Owens Fashion Week, causing a buzz with its eye-catching design. He matched the shoes with yellow suspenders and a bandana to create a look that everyone remembered.
At the moment, it is unclear whether the boots are a one-off or are going to be put into production. The original Big Red Boots have accumulated many fans, but just as many people have raised an eyebrow at the whimsical trend. Even so, it appears as though there's already a vested interest in the Crocs collab, so they're sure to become popular if they do drop.
The original Big Red Boot is available for purchase via MSCHF.
