Meet This Year’s Class of MacArthur Fellows Receiving a “Genius Grant” of $800K Each

Now that it’s finally fall, awards season is in full swing. Amid announcements for the National Book Awards, the Nobel Prizes, and the Booker Prize, among others, the MacArthur Foundation has also revealed its 2025 fellows. This year’s class encompasses 22 recipients of what is popularly known as the “genius grant,” representing disciplines ranging from political science, evolutionary biology, and cartography, to prose fiction, archeology, and film.

Monet’s Venetian Cityscapes Are Coming to the Brooklyn Museum

In 1908, Claude Monet paid his first—and only—visit to Venice, at the encouragement of his wife Alice. At first, he was reluctant to leave his home in Giverny, but it didn’t take long for him to recognize and ultimately treasure Venice’s singular cityscape. It was there that Monet produced his last new works to ever be shown publicly during his lifetime, and it was there that he renewed his technical, thematic, and artistic skills.

NFL players have turned their tunnel fit walks into fashion runways, donning everything from casually stylish outfits to extravagant ensembles. For Josh Allen, star quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, this pregame appearance has turned into the perfect spotlight for an important cause. Every week this season, Allen has worn a hat customized by a patient at Buffalo’s Oishei Children’s Hospital (OCH), which is later auctioned to raise money for the kids and their families.

Local Historians Unveil the Oldest Known Photo Taken in Colorado

A team of local historians have uncovered what they believe to the be the oldest surviving photograph of Colorado. The photo is a daguerreotype taken in 1853, and predates the 1876 formation of Colorado as a state by over 20 years. This discovery is all thanks to History Colorado, whose historians decided to find the oldest photograph of Colorado as a way to celebrate the state’s 150th birthday next year.
