They say that “the livin' is easy” in the summertime. However, the season isn't always a breeze for everyone—just ask parents. Whether spent scrambling to find a babysitter, splurging on summer camps, or staying home with their little ones, June through August can be a tricky time for people with kids—so tricky, in fact, that parents are now celebrating their kids' “first day of school” as their own “First Day of Freedom.”
In a viral Instagram trend, exhausted moms are sharing the ways that they're spending the back to school season. In order to mark the occasion, many have created comical letter boards. A twist on those used to commemorate a child's first day of school, these boards feature all kinds of information, from mom's age and (ideal) weight to her favorite activities—like sitting quietly and going to the bathroom alone.
In addition to these displays, moms are also simply sharing snaps of themselves happily sending their kids off to school. While most simply smile next to their scowling kids, some take an extra step and opt for an adult beverage—like a giant glass of wine or a flute filled with bubbly—while floating in the pool or even jumping for joy.
Of course, many of these happy parents also note that the occasion is bittersweet. But, after a summer of strict mom duty, a break (and a drink) is well-deserved!
As summer break winds down and kids go back to school, some moms are taking this opportunity to celebrate their “First Day of Freedom!”
