You Can Explore the Wild Peruvian Amazon in a Luxury Riverboat

Abercrombie & Kent's Pure Amazon River Boat Cruise

The epic Amazon Basin covers a vast area of mostly untouched wilderness that remains largely unexplored. Since you can only get there by river, luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent (A&K)has created a way to experience it on their new riverboat, Pure Amazon. Launched in mid-2025, this modern five-star boat takes guests through the wildlife-rich wetlands of the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve.

The stunning reserve is Peru’s largest protected area, covering 8,000 square miles. From June to November, the low-water season offers prime conditions for spotting rare birds and animals. During the high-water months—roughly December to May—rising rivers flood much of Pacaya-Samiria, creating a vast, water-filled landscape to explore from a completely different perspective.

Designed by architect Adriana Granato of Studio Ibsen, the Pure Amazon riverboat combines contemporary style with eco-friendly touches, including low-level lighting that minimizes disruption to nocturnal wildlife. With just 12 thoughtfully designed suites, the Pure Amazon’s intimate size offers a highly personal experience while reducing its impact on the surrounding wildlife.

Guests can enjoy panoramic views and plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife and birdlife. Plus, A&K offers skiff excursions, jungle walks, and stargazing opportunities to add to your itinerary. And after a long day of exploring, you can enjoy the riverboat’s menu of Peruvian, Amazonian, and international cuisine.

A&K has also partnered with Nueva Arica, an Indigenous community, and Amanatari, a nonprofit that supports Amazonian Indigenous groups. Through these partnerships, A&K is backing several “bio-business” projects, such as honey production and natural fiber work. Guests on the three-night trips can visit the Nueva Arica communities firsthand and see these initiatives in action.
