Creative company Today is Art Day is on a mission “to make art and art history more fun.” In order to meet this goal, the brand has created Art History Heroes, a quirky collection of artist action figures that includes a fun Frida Kahlo figurine, tiny toy Van Gogh, and more miniatures. On the heels of this series' success, Today is Art Day has decided to shift gears and playfully pay homage to all kinds of historical greats. First up in this new Historical Figures series? Albert Einstein, the father of physics.
With his wild white hair and signature mustache, this Einstein doll is instantly recognizable. In addition to these tell-tale physical characteristics, the toy also comes equipped with accessories associated with the figure: a pipe (“I believe that pipe smoking contributes to a somewhat calm and objective judgment in all human affairs,” the genius famously stated in 1950) and Lina, his beloved violin. Together, these accoutrements paint a playful and personal picture of the man behind the theory of relativity and the E=mc2 equation.
Fittingly, this model comes with a technological twist. With this doll, Today is Art Day explains, “your phone is basically a time machine.” All you have to do is download a free augmented reality app and scan your figurine. Once you've completed those quick and easy steps, you'll find yourself in a virtual version of Einstein’s lecture hall. Based on historical photographs, this interactive space is an ingenious way to experience a day in the life of Albert Einstein.
You can find this fun-sized physicist and other action figures in the My Modern Met Store.
