Japan Has Cat-Shaped Sandals That’ll Keep Your Feet Feline Fine This Summer

Cat Geta Sandals by Nara Getaya

Japan's traditional geta sandals are a blend of beachy flip-flops and Dutch clogs. While they come in many different styles, Nara-based shoe brand Nara Getaya‘s traditional footwear has a contemporary twist—they're shaped like cats! Even better, the company has recently updated its own line of cat-shaped geta sandals with new designs, making them the purrfect pair of sandals for feline fans this summer.

The super-cute Nyara Geta line is cleverly named; it's a portmanteau of Nya (the Japanese word for “meow”) and Nara (where the sandals are made). The collection features 9 different designs including black, tabby, and Russian blue. There’s also a new style called hachiware—a term used to describe cats with markings on their forehead that resembles the kanji character hachi, meaning the number 8 (八). No matter the color or markings, each pair features adorable cat ears in front of your toes and a tiny tail that peeks out from behind your heels.

Rather than traditional wood, the quirky cat-shaped sandals are made from a sturdy yet soft and shock-resistant material called EVA, so they’re practical for both indoors and outdoors. Most of the designs are available in both kids and adult sizes, so anyone can rock this super cute, kawaii style.

The entire Nyara Geta collection can be purchased through Nara Getaya’s online shop. Each pair costs 3,780 yen (US$35).
