Earlier this month we introduced you to Matthew Dippel, a photographer determined to track down the couple he captured from a distance, during their romantic wedding proposal at Yosemite National Park, California. Now, thanks to the power of the Internet, the mystery lovebirds have been found—and in case you were wondering, she said yes!
Dippel turned to social media for help, where he shared the breathtaking image on Facebook and Twitter. “Alright Internet I need your help,” he said. “Help me find these two. This was taken at Taft Point, in Yosemite National Park on October 6th, 2018. I took this photo and would love for them to find it!” The photo went viral, and thousands of people shared Dippel’s image in the hopes of helping him find the people behind the magical moment.
A few days later, Charlie Bear happened to scroll through a local news station's Instagram feed when and saw the picture and realized it was of him and his now-fiancé, Melissa Ngo. Feeling totally in awe of the photo, he immediately reached out to Dippel to reveal himself.
However, this wasn’t the first time Bear proposed to Ngo. He originally popped the question in February 2018 after a special request from Ngo’s 82-year-old grandmother. “I decided to do it earlier so that we could tell her grandma, since she always tells us ‘Better get married so I'm still around,' ” he said. Since both Bear and Ngo are avid adventurers, he decided to give his wife-to-be a more memorable, second proposal that reflects their relationship. “The Taft proposal was for Melissa,” he reveals, “being more personal and meaningful, because I always knew she wanted an epic proposal at an amazing location.”
The happy couple plans to get married in April 2019.
Photographer Matthew Dippel finally found the couple from his viral image of their Yosemite wedding proposal.
She said yes!
