You Can Get Cozy Under a Plush Blanket That Looks Like a Giant Stingray

Giant Stingray Plush Blanket

While hugging a real-life stingray may be impossible, you can now pick up the next best thing. Japanese retailer Felissimo has partnered with brand YOU+MORE! to create an adorable plush blanket that looks just like the gentle giant.

This nearly lifesize throw blanket is intended to resemble the giant freshwater stingray, which is the largest species of stingray in the world and native to Southeast Asia. In the wild, these underwater creatures can measure up to 13 feet long, but this accessory stops at about 4 feet—the perfect size to spread across your lap as you relax on your couch.

The inspiration for this whimsical home decor comes from a real-life giant freshwater stingray at Tokyo's Itabashi Botanical Garden. Nicknamed “Chao” by visitors to the aquarium, she measures an impressive 9 feet. YOU+ME! recreated some of Chao's distinct markings in their blanket version to make it feel like you're covered by a genuine stingray.

The whimsical piece of home decor is available for pre-order via Felissimo for 13,200 yen, or $98 USD. They need to acquire at least 100 orders by September 27 to be able to follow through with the project.
