New York City is a place brimming with talent. So, a good singing voice may be hiding just about anywhere. Musician Reginald Guillaume (aka Guitaro5000) knows this all too well. That's what inspired him to launch his Sing With Me project, inviting New Yorkers to join him for a song. His latest encounter with a songbird involved a little hesitation, but once the man started to sing, the world couldn't help but take note of this untapped talent.

The meeting happened when Guillaume was on the streets of NYC, looking for the next person to sing. He offered the mic to a guy calmly having lunch on a nearby bench, who, after pondering for a second, said, “I'll do it.” The stranger's name is Danny Peter Smith, and in a video shared on YouTube, he tells Guillaume that he used to be a singer before they get started. Then, Smith asks to sing a bit of “Tennessee Whiskey,” a country song by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove that became a massive hit after Chris Stapleton covered it.

As the duo plays together, Smith clearly overcomes his trepidation and sings with passion, impressing Guillaume and those following his livestream. Although his voice is much smoother than Stapleton's low growl, he delivers the song perfectly and with a pop edge.

Guillaume tells him, “Once a singer, always a singer.” Fortunately, Smith hasn't shied away from showing off his talents. A former Broadway actor, he shows off both his comedy chops and singing voice on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. As for Guillaume, you can tune in to his Twitch livestreams from the streets of New York and visit his YouTube channel to catch up on impromptu performances.
