By now, most of us understand the importance of wearing face coverings in public. And while many people are making the most of the “new normal” by choosing artistic face masks that show off their style, there’s one person who’s taking creative coverings to a whole new level. Artisanal leather worker James (of Pirate’s Leatherworks) crafted an amazing Alien-inspired facehugger mask that celebrates his love of sci-fi.
“I don’t usually make things for myself,” says James. “But as we all need to wear face coverings now I thought I’d make myself one.” The talented craftsman found the pattern for the impressive mask on Etsy and spent around two to three days putting it together. It comprises 59 separate parts, all of which were expertly hand-sewn together to create a very realistic facehugger. It features eight long, finger-like legs and a creepy, spine-like tail. Don’t worry though—this particular parasitoid isn’t looking for a host. It simply helps to keep you and others safe from COVID-19.
If you want your own facehugger mask, you’re in luck—James is currently taking orders. “My intention was to just make one for myself as a bit of a laugh and as a leatherworker I posted it up on my Facebook page thinking nothing of it,” James told My Modern Met. “It was only later during the day after when someone messaged me saying they wanted one and then from that point it went crazy, I am now working as fast as I can to clear my order book to take more orders for them.” Prepare to give customers at your local supermarket a fright!
