Baker Crafts Epic Millennium Falcon Cake Featuring Details That Are Out of This World

Millennium Falcon Cake by Maddie Liu

Many contemporary bakers get creative with cake decorating, resulting in incredible edible sculptures, but Maddie Lu goes above and beyond with her incredible Millennium Falcon cake. Star Wars fans will appreciate the level of detail the talented food artist has put into the design—the edible spaceship looks just like it belongs in the films.

Harnessing her full force in the kitchen, Lu and her team have sculpted a remarkable work of art that's clearly out of this world. It should come as no surprise that this young baker even has a big baking competition win under her belt—she and her partner Crystal won the champion title on Food Network’s Winner Cake All! just earlier this year.

Another baker, Sarah Strain (of Eat My Cake) also created a Millennium Falcon cake. Though it may not be as massive as Lu's creation, it is not lacking in imagination and overall impressiveness. Best of all, she shows how you can create your own in a video (see below). First, she sculpts the spaceship’s saucer-shaped base from cake sponge, before adding a layer of butter cream and a sheet of metallic-gray fondant. She then adds individual fondant details such as metal bolts, engines, cannons, shields, and even a satellite dish. Next, she pipes on intricate lines, and uses an airbrush to create depth and shadow. Lastly, Strain creates a swirling galaxy base to support the huge cake—the entire creation is totally worthy of Hans Solo.
