Photographer Captures Rare Photos of Flying Foxes Cooling Down in a River

Wildlife photographer Hardik Shelat has once again shown that perseverance pays off with a series of incredible flying fox photos. Shelat photographed these exceptional animals, also known as Indian fruit bats, while they got a reprieve from the summer heat by splashing in a river. It's an exceptionally rare moment to capture, as these animals are nocturnal.

Galapagos Tortoise Celebrates 135th Birthday by Becoming Father for the First Time

A Galapagos tortoise known as Goliath is at the center of several history-making circumstances. Just days before his 135th birthday—making him the oldest resident of Zoo Miami—Goliath became a father for the first time. The exciting birth also marks the first time a Galapagos tortoise has been born at this South Florida institution. The zoo reports that the baby tortoise seems to be healthy and has been removed from an incubator.
