Woman Who Can Smell Parkinson’s Disease Is Helping To Pave the Way for a Medical Breakthrough

Joy Milne, a 75-year-old Scottish woman born with an extraordinarily sensitive sense of smell, has the remarkable ability to detect Parkinson’s disease by scent. She’s now working with University of Manchester researcher Perdita Barran to develop a swab-based test for early detection, as part of a study funded by the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Milne, a former nurse, first became aware of her extraordinary gift at just 6 years old.

Artist Turns Cardboard Scraps Into Sci-Fi Sculptures Inspired by Past Visions of the Future

After 30 years of operating his own graphic design studio, Greg Olijnyk craved the third dimension. Finally, in 2017, the Melbourne-based artist shifted from his keyboard and mouse to something a little more unexpected: cardboard. Since then, he has been creating sculptures composed of the common material, transforming an otherwise mundane medium into intricate robots, insects, factories, and machines.

DISCO, I'm Coming Out brings together photography, fashion, art, and audiovisual archives to paint a picture of how disco shaped a generation. More than just an exhibition celebrating the disco aesthetic, the show also demonstrates how disco's emergence parallels the sociopolitical struggles of 1970s America.
